Urgent cases will always be accommodated. Requests for urgent appointments will be triaged by a doctor first. The doctor will speak to you on the same day to assess the urgency, arrange to see you or make alternative arrangements with another practice team member. Doctor also offers telephone advice and sometimes prescribes medication as necessary.
Appointments are usually 10 minutes, but if you feel your problem will take longer, please request a 20 minute appointment.
For patients who are unable to attend the surgery to see a doctor or nurse during standard office hours, we run out of normal hours clinics every week. It's every Tuesday morning at Croft House; it is early Thursday morning at Marsden. You can choose to see either a nurse or doctor in these clinics. Please speak to the receptionist if you would like to book an appointment.
Nurse Practitioners and Practice Nurses
In a number of cases it might be worth considering an appointment with a nurse practitioner or practice nurse rather than a doctor. These clinicians are qualified to deal with many ailments and you may be seen more quickly.
For an increasing number of conditions and follow up you may be able to speak to a doctor on the telephone rather than needing to make an appointment. Ongoing conditions not requiring examination may also be dealt with over the telephone.
Patients can telephone the surgery at any time for advice between 08:00 and 12.00 and request to speak to a clinician. Telephone calls before 09:00 should be for only urgent problems, in order to keep the telephone lines free for making appointments.
In order for the clinician to prioritize calls the receptionist will require some details of your problem. If the clinician is available you will be put through to speak to him or her. If the doctor/nurse is not available then your telephone number and times available for a call back will be taken. If the problem becomes more urgent before the clinician has returned your call then you should ring the surgery again.
We operate a chaperone policy and all patients are free to request a chaperone who should be a trained person. However, if a clinician is unavailable to chaperone at the time of your appointment, your GP or nurse will offer you the choice of either having a non-clinical chaperone (i.e. a receptionist) or making another appointment.
If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else.
